As you might be able to guess, I think Billy Wilder is the greatest filmaker of the english speaking world. Although not all his films are great, I think he made a higher number of great films than anyone.
To make it onto my first list, the main criteria I applied was that I must be able to go back and watch the movie over & over again, and never tire of it.
I am trying to sort this list in order of preference, but this is proving rather difficult... every time I do some editing, the order changes, so this list might not be finished.
Notes:
[*1] I think Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Silver Streak have the best movie endings of all time!
[*2] 1994 was a particularly good year for movies.
